From rearranging your bedlinen to adding a splash of colour, here are my ten top tips for updating your bedroom.
There are many times that I have caught myself sitting on my bed and thinking “hmmm something is not quite right in here” I then proceed to move furniture, change positions of various decorative objects and look on Pinterest for new bedroom ideas.
1. Add some textures
Nothing says comfort like soft throws and plush cushions. For bedroom interiors, pick fabrics that create pure comfort within the space. Bedrooms should call to you, make you want to relax and of course sleep! Add throws and cushions to beds and a thick rug on the floor.
2. Play around with decoration
Purchase a couple of items that you think will work well together. For example; some candles, a small sculpture and some artificial flowers. Group them together and hey presto a beautiful arrangement.
This always works well with a rule of three and various heights.

3. Invest in a new duvet cover
I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again; Invest in a decent duvet and good bed linen. Be gone scratchy fabrics! Hello Egyptian cotton. Invest in the highest thread count within your budget (I usually prefer 300 – 600) additionally add a beautifully thick throw at the end of the bed. This is a simple but elegant look for a beautiful hotel style bedroom. This season has also seen a number of velvet and brushed cotton fabrics included in bedding ranges.
Thread count? Thread count is the number of threads woven into one square foot of fabric. Fabric’s with higher thread counts are generally softer and wear well.
4. De-clutter
Take everything off of your shelves and decide what really matters and what NEEDS to go. Do you need that dust trap of a photo frame that you never really liked? Sell it, Donate it or just give it away. Bedrooms should be minimal and calming.
5. Dress your bed
Some people may see this as completely unnecessary and a waste of money. I say to them, have you seen my bed? Every night my bed calls to me; it’s heavenly fabric, the plump soft cushions and the soft warm throw. Start with your duvet cover (TOP TIP: Always iron it) make sure it is straight and even on both sides. Then add your pillows (I recommend at least four but i have been known to use as many as six) There should always be room for some small cushions and finally a large throw at the end of the bed.

6. Create a feature
In my bedroom I have two bedside tables that were in serious need of dressing. I tried everything to make them look perfect but nothing worked. After a few minutes (hours) on Pinterest searching I decided upon a combination of candle sticks, flowers and small candle holders would be perfect. We now have now an eye catching focal point in the bedroom.

7. Add some subtle artwork
Nothing brings a room together like some carefully selected artwork. Choose soft pieces, nothing too dramatic or attention grabbing remember your aim is here is to create a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
8. Lighting is everything
Bedroom lighting needs to be carefully chosen in order to adhere to a number of situations. For instance the lighting you need in your morning routine may be totally different to the lighting needed to prepare your body for sleep. Have a main lighting feature and if possible use smart light bulbs to allow dimming. Then have two bedside lamps to give a warm darker glow before bed (also very good if your a book worm like me). I also have lighting in my wardrobes to give me a good objective view of my clothing and shoes.

9. Dress your windows
Tying in with the last point about lighting, it is very important to dress your windows correctly. I use a heavy long curtain to give a luxurious feeling and then have a long sheer voile behind to add extra privacy and to keep any light pollution at bay while you enjoy a good nights sleep.

10. Those items your not sure where to put – Display them
I spent a good amount of time mulling over what to do with three perfume bottles. I tried them on the dresser, i tried them in the draw (you really shouldn’t hide channel) and then as i looked through the weekly Pinterest session i saw this image. The way the accessories were displayed really clicked with me and i knew i had to hunt for a glass box.
Goodluck with your bedroom updates.
